Director of cricket Martyn Moxon believes Yorkshire's County Championship success this year has been a real "squad effort".

Yorkshire retained the Division One crown by taking an unassailable lead with two games remaining after an impressive performance on the opening day of their game against second-placed Middlesex at Lord's.

The hosts were dismissed for just 106, with Ryan Sidebottom taking 5-18, to end their mathematical chance of snatching the title.

Moxon told Sky Sports News HQ: "Great credit to the players, they have played fantastically well again.

"Our bowling attack has been outstanding throughout the season and they showed that again this morning. Ryan Sidebottom's first over of the day was unbelievable - a remarkable effort.

"So the bowlers have been brilliant and the batting; we have had some fantastic, outstanding individual performances throughout the summer.

"It's been a great squad effort because obviously we have had a lot of disruptions through international call-ups. That's challenged us, but the squad have responded to that and the lads that have come into the team have done their jobs.

"I'm absolutely delighted with the players and for the players because it was our aim when we won it last year to try and follow it up this season and to have done it is a brilliant achievement."

Moxon also believes Yorkshire now have a chance of rivalling their great 1960s predecessors who won seven titles in nine years.

"I think we're starting to get up there with the great teams of the past," he said. "I think we'd need a few more championships to surpass those great teams, but we have a chance.

"And that's an aim of this squad that we do leave a legacy of being successful over a period of time."

Moxon also hailed head coach Jason Gillespie's record of just three defeats in 61 championship clashes, the former Australia paceman underpinning Yorkshire's success.

"Having played for Yorkshire he knew the club but he's a very laid-back character that at the same time demands high standards," said Moxon.

"With the support staff too he's been able to create an environment for the players to focus but express themselves. And that record is remarkable."

Gillespie added: "I'm incredibly impressed with the lads. I remember at the end of last season when we had won it there was a lot of talk in the dressing room about not wanting this to be a one-off and wanting to back it up.

"It was easy to say at the time but to then back it up through their actions is special. Especially with everything that's gone on, missing players with injuries and suspensions, to come through is pretty special and these guys have been absolutely brilliant."
