County Championship Division One: Ollie Raynor boosts Middlesex title bid

Middlesex moved one step closer to clinching the County Championship Division One title after dominating Warwickshire on day two at Edgbaston.

Ollie Raynor took five wickets for 49 runs to help restrict the hosts to 172, in reply to Middlesex's first innings total of 242.

Sam Robson (20) and Nick Gubbins (41) then shared an unbeaten first wicket stand of 63 as the visitors ended the day 133 runs ahead, with ten wickets still in hand.

Elsewhere, Jack Brooks recorded his best bowling figures of the season to help Yorkshire take hold of their match against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.

Brooks took five wickets for 53 runs to help bowl the hosts out for 222, in reply to Yorkshire's first innings total of 281.

James Vince (60) and Sean Ervine (80) both made half centuries before Hampshire collapsed when well set on 199-4.

Alex Lees (12) fell to Brad Wheal early in Yorkshire's second innings but the visitors managed to reach 69-1 at the close of play, with Adam Lyth (37*) and Gary Ballance (17*) both well set at the crease.

Bottom-placed side Nottinghamshire kept alive their chances of survival with a spirited second day performance against Durham at Chester-le-Street.

Jake Libby made a magnificent 144 as Notts posted a first innings total of 313, in reply to Durham's 244.

The visitors then picked up the late wickets of Mark Stoneman (39), Scott Borthwick (0) and Jack Burnham (3) to reduce Durham to 83-3 - just 14 runs ahead at the close of play.

Meanwhile, relegation-threatened Lancashire look odds on to salvage a draw against Somerset at Old Trafford.

Peter Trego had smashed an unbeaten 154 to help the visitors declare on an imposing first innings total of 553-8.

However, Lancashire's highly-rated youngster Haseeb Hameed scored 56 in reply as Lancashire fought back to end the day well placed on 138-2.
