Matt Renshaw marked his Somerset debut with an unbeaten century as 18 wickets fell on the opening day of the Specsavers County Championship match with Worcestershire at Taunton.
The 22-year-old Australian finished 101 not out in a total of 202 after an uncontested toss.
James Hildreth contributed a breezy 48, while Ed Barnard claimed 5-52 from 16 overs - his maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket.
In reply, Worcestershire plunged to 48 for five, Lewis Gregory claiming three wickets in his opening spell, before closing on 153-8 with Travis Head making 49.
Four-wicket hauls from Fidel Edwards and Liam Dawson put Hampshire in early command of their match against Surrey as the home side collapsed to 211 all out.
Edwards finished with 4-38 and Dawson 4-30 but, by stumps, Hampshire were a wobbly 52-3 in reply.
Surrey lost their last six wickets for 24 runs in nine overs after a third-wicket stand of 87 in 33 overs between Rory Burns (46) and Dean Elgar (44), before Ben Foakes weighed in with a valuable 46.
Andrew Hodd's resolute 62 followed by runs and wickets for Jack Brooks helped Yorkshire hit back from early strife against Nottinghamshire.
Yorkshire slipped to 93-5 before lunch following an uncontested toss at Emerald Headingley but they finished the day with a total of 256 on the board and the visitors in bother at 53-4 from 19 overs.
Hodd laid the platform with eight fours in 116 balls, sharing 44 for the sixth wicket with Jack Leaning and 36 for the eighth with Josh Shaw.
Brooks then really turned things around by striking 30 not out, including a big six over long-off against Samit Patel's left-arm spinners, before claiming three wickets.
Jamie Porter and Simon Harmer bowled defending champions Essex back into their opening match of the season after the champions were skittled for 150 by Lancashire.
Porter and Harmer shared 147 wickets in Essex's title triumph last year and claimed four each to put the brakes on Lancashire.
On a seamer's paradise where 18 wickets fell for 291 runs, Essex finished the day marginally ahead by nine runs.
