Batsman Chris Cooke has signed a two-year extension to his deal that will keep him at Glamorgan until the end of the 2018 season.

Cooke, 29, established himself in Glamorgan's County Championship side during a breakthrough season in 2014 having caught the eye the previous year in limited-overs cricket - not least in helping the county reach a Lord's final in the YB40 cup.

He was one of his side's leading performers this season, scoring a memorable 94 not out off 54 balls to help Glamorgan chase 318 for victory in the Royal London One-Day Cup match against Kent and hit his third first-class century against Gloucestershire in the final Championship game of the year.

"I have loved my time at Glamorgan over the last few years so I am very happy to commit my future to the Club," he said.

"We've got a good squad and if we can continue to build around the pillars of experience with the promising young Welsh talent coming through, then only good things will come.

"I'm excited about the prospect of helping the club progress by gaining promotion and getting into some more finals."

Glamorgan chief executive and director of cricket Hugh Morris added: "Chris is a high quality batsman, capable of outstanding innings, and is a terrific person to have in the dressing room.

"His calm assured nature and powerful batting performances is of great benefit to the younger guys we have breaking into the first team."

Cooke has spent previous winters in his native South Africa, but is to spend his preparations for the 2016 campaign in Wales.

"It's my first winter in Wales and I'm looking forward to training with the squad, which is something I've not really done before through the colder months," said Cooke. "And it gives me a chance to work on some technical improvements too."
