Miguel Cummins bowled Worcestershire to a dramatic 11-run win over Sussex in Specsavers County Championship Division Two.

The West Indian, who took seven wickets in Sussex's first innings, claimed the last four wickets to fall in Hove as Worcestershire moved above their opponents into third in the table with one game remaining.

Sussex started the third day on 13-1, having been set 272 for victory, and they lost Craig Cachopa to the second ball of the day when he was clean bowled by Joe Leach for a duck.

Two more Sussex wickets fell with the score on 42 as Ben Brown became Cummins' first victim for 17 and Leach struck again to bowl young opener Fynn Hudson-Prentice for 20.

Philip Salt and Ollie Robinson added 54 for the fifth wicket but it was David Wiese who Sussex were left relying on after he came in at 96-5 and started to go on the offensive.

Robinson made 42 before he was run out and it was the partnership between Wiese and England all-rounder Chris Jordan that reignited hopes of a Sussex victory.

Jofra Archer hit three fours in his 16 before Cummins struck again, but Wiese took Sussex within sight of victory and reached 70 before the game came to an abrupt end.

He was helpless at the non-striker's end when Cummins had Danny Briggs caught for one and then bowled Steve Magoffin for a first-ball duck to secure victory well inside three days, taking his match figures to 12-166.

Northamptonshire will fancy their chances of beating Gloucestershire on Thursday after setting them 442 for victory at the County Ground.

Richard Levi scored 95 as the home side scored 376 in their second innings but was left kicking himself after being run out five short of a century.

England hopeful Ben Duckett was also in the runs, scoring 70 at the top of the Northants order, while Rob Newton (47) and Steven Crook (46) made valuable contributions.

Gloucestershire were given 16 overs to face in the evening session and lost two key wickets with Ben Sanderson accounting for captain Gareth Roderick (19) and Will Tavare for a duck as they reached 35-2.

They need a further 407 runs with eight wickets remaining to claim an unlikely win, while a Northants victory would see them leapfrog their opponents into fifth place in the table.

Wayne Madsen of Derbyshire

Wayne Madsen gave Derbyshire a chance to secure their first four-day win of the season with his 23rd first-class century for the county against Leicestershire.

Built around Madsen's unbeaten 134, Derbyshire built a lead of 346 by close with two of their second innings wickets remaining heading into the final day.

Captain Mark Cosgrove was denied a century in Leicestershire's first innings when he ran out of partners, left stranded on 95 not out as they were dismissed for 247.

Clint McKay took two early wickets as Derbyshire were reduced to 57-5 in their second knock, but Madsen and Harvey Hosein put on 143 for the sixth wicket to calm any fears of a low score.

Hosein scored 58 before he was dismissed by Charlie Shreck (2-61) but Madsen made it through to three figures and by stumps had reached 134 off 226 balls, a knock including 17 fours and a six.

Champions Essex spent most of a hot day in the field at Chelmsford as Glamorgan built a 260-run lead with one second innings wicket remaining.

Essex ended their first innings 13 overs into the day, James Foster reaching 64 as they scored 319 and secured a lead of 33 runs.

Jacques Rudolph (56) and Will Bragg (54) put on 91 for the second Glamorgan wicket before Ryan ten Doeschate, Ravi Bopara and James Porter took two wickets apiece to reduce them to 163-7.

But Mark Wallace played a fine innings coming in at No 8, and he will start Thursday unbeaten on 75 after a handy ninth-wicket stand with Tim van der Gugten (32).
