Worcestershire dominate Lancashire as Martin Guptill scores ton on debut and Daryl Mitchell hits second hundred of game

Ryan Patel produced a remarkable burst of six wickets for five runs in 23 balls as Surrey made Somerset follow-on in the battle of the Specsavers County Championship top two at Guildford.
The 20-year-old, who had only taken two previous wickets in his career, swung the ball late at gentle medium pace after coming on with Somerset 169-4.
Less than 30 minutes later, Somerset had subsided to 180 all out and were following on, with Patel's victims including top scorer Ed Byrom (52) and former Surrey player Steven Davies (33).
Davies was one of three wickets to fall in the 56th over, with Josh Davey and Tim Groenewald also dismissed before fit-again Jack Leach saw off the hat-trick delivery.
Rikki Clarke bagged the first four Somerset wickets, while Surrey's Ollie Pope earlier completed his third Championship century of the season and overtook captain Rory Burns as the leading run scorer in the division this terms in his side's 459 all out, their highest total this campaign.
Worcestershire are in complete control of Lancashire at New Road, with a century on debut for New Zealand's Martin Guptill and a second ton of the game for Daryl Mitchell - the fourth time he has achieved the feat, level with club legend Graeme Hick - pushing the hosts into a lead of 478. Guptill (111) and Mitchell (163) put on 215 for the Pears' first wicket in 33 overs, with the former reaching three figures from 97 balls to become the first Worcestershire player to score a Championship ton on debut since Phil Jaques against Surrey at The Oval in 2006.
Mitchell added 137 with Tom Fell (62) for the second wicket as Worcestershire closed on 354-4, having lost three wickets for six balls as stumps approached.
Lancashire had earlier been bundled out for 130 after startling collapse which saw them lose 10 wickets for 53 in 22.2 overs, after openers Keaton Jennings (55) and Alex Davies (43) had out on 77.
Ed Barnard bagged 5-34 for Worcestershire, which each of the batsmen he dismissed, including Haseeb Hammed, Shiv Chanderpaul and Jordan Clark, failing to score.
