Ben Stokes has hinted that he will miss the final Test against Pakistan but remains confident of returning to international cricket with England later this summer.
Stokes was left out of England's squad for the third Test at Edgbaston after suffering a torn calf muscle during his side's 330-run victory over Pakistan at Old Trafford last week.
The injury is yet another blow to the all-rounder, who underwent surgery earlier this year after injuring his knee in the first Test against Sri Lanka, and the England and Wales Cricket Board's medical team are yet to assess the seriousness of Stokes's calf problem.
The Durham man took to Twitter on Thursday to reassure his supporters and vowed to return to international cricket in time to play a role in England's five-match one day international series against Pakistan later on this summer.
"Devastated about the injury especially with all the hard work put in by myself and others to get me back to FULL fitness," Stokes said. "Another couple weeks of rehab and hoping to finish off what has been great summer so far for @ECB_cricket."
England have opted not to draft another player into their squad to replace Stokes for the upcoming third Test in Birmingham and are set to name either Steven Finn, Jake Ball or Adil Rashid in his place.
Alastair Cook's men levelled the four-match series 1-1 with victory at Old Trafford, following Pakistan's historic win at Lord's in the opening match of the series.
