A century from Suresh Raina helped India to a 133-run victory over England.

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni felt his India side revelled in a change of format after they crushed England by 133 runs in the second ODI of the five-match series.

After the opening match was washed out at Bristol, India proved they were not suffering any hangover from their 3-1 Test series defeat to England by demolishing the same opponents in Cardiff.

Suresh Raina's superb century helped the tourists post a challenging 304-6, a total made even more impressive by the fact they had been 19-2 after being asked to bat first in bowler-friendly conditions.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja then claimed four wickets as the hosts collapsed from 54 without loss to 161 all out, meaning they now trail 1-0 with three games still to play.

"It's a very different format, it gives them the freedom to express themselves on the field," Dhoni - who scored 52 as he put on 144 with Raina for the fifth wicket - said afterwards.

"What it really does is bring them back into form if they're out of form a bit, also you play according to the demands of the game."

The India skipper heaped special praise on centurion Raina; the left-hander had not been involved in the Test series but made his mark against England with an even 100 from 75 delivieres, including three sixes and 12 fours.

"It was important he stayed there, because he was one batsman who was set," Dhoni said of his team-mate's ton.

"We realised that if we could get a partnership going, if we had wickets in hand, we could make a lot of runs in the last 10-12 overs.

"So his innings was very crucial."
