Jade Dernbach's hat-trick counted for nothing as Gloucestershire beat Surrey by six runs to win the Royal London One-Day Cup in a thrilling Lord's final.

The England seamer took six wickets, wrapping up Gloucestershire's innings with a hat-trick, but decent innings from Kumar Sangakkara and teenage sensation Sam Curran were not enough as a late Surrey collapse handed victory to Geraint Jones' side in his final professional game.

Dernbach was in irresistible form from the opening over of the day as he removed Gloucestershire dangerman and captain Michael Klinger for a duck with the third ball, caught behind by Gary Wilson.

Chris Dent and Gareth Roderick built a 40-run stand for the second wicket before Dernbach struck again, Dent falling for 22 when he pulled a shot straight to Azhar Mahmood at mid-off.

Hamish Marshall (18) was stumped off a wide when he advanced in Gareth Batty's second over but was undone by an off break which turned up the slope - Wilson reacting well behind the stumps.

Mahmood struck twice in successive overs, bowling Benny Howell (nine) through the gate and Roderick off an inside edge with deliveries pushed down the slope from the pavilion end - the Gloucestershire 'keeper had made a painstaking 39 off 64 deliveries.

Jones was clean bowled, Craig Miles edged behind to Wilson first ball and David Payne was adjudged leg before to complete the landmark, although replays showed the delivery was going some way down leg side - Dernbach finished with sensational figures of 6-35.

Gloucestershire's total of 220 looked vulnerable for long spells of the Surrey reply, even though James Fuller (2-34) removed England batsmen Jason Roy (11) and Steven Davies (13) to leave them on 43-2.

Davies' dismissal would prove to be the last for more than 20 overs, with Sangakkara and Rory Burns looking to be in cruise control as they put on 101 for the third wicket to bring the target down to less than 80.

But things started to go wrong for Surrey when Sangakkara (60) became the first of three victims for spinner Taylor, to a waist-high full toss, and he also dismissed Burns for 56 in his next over.

Wilson made eight before Smith removed him but Surrey's target was down to 30 with five wickets remaining and the asking rate under a run-a-ball with Sam Curran and Mahmood appearing to have things in hand.

The retiring Geraint Jones couldn't hide his delight after Gloucestershire beat Surrey to win the Royal London One-Day Cup at Lord's

Smith struck again when Mahmood (five) advanced down the track and failed to make contact, and Tom Curran was trapped in front by Taylor, who returned fine figures of 3-43.

James Burke joined Sam Curran at the crease and they brought the target down to seven before Burke was run out going for a quick single by Dent's throw into Roderick.

But it was Payne's final over that proved to be too much for Surrey to handle, the left-armer ending Sam Curran's innings on 37 when he lofted the first ball to Howell near the boundary.

Two balls later Surrey skipper Batty's drive only found Taylor's safe hands and Surrey's innings was over on 214, leaving Jones and Gloucestershire to celebrate their first trophy in 11 years.
