Laura Trott leads the Olympic omnium at the halfway mark after making a superb start to her title defence.

The 24-year-old Briton finished second in the first of the six events, the scratch race, and then won both individual pursuit and elimination race to move on to 118 out of a possible 120 points.

Jolien D'hoore, of Belgium, is eight points back in second place, while Sarah Hammer, of the United States, is 10 adrift in third.

Trott produced a remarkable performance in the individual pursuit, stopping the clock almost two seconds ahead of Hammer in a time of 3min 25.054sec, and she looked just as supreme on the way to a seemingly easy victory in the elimination race.

Her lead and form now make her hot favourite to secure gold in Tuesday's concluding three races: the 500m time trial, at just after 3.15pm BST; the flying lap, at just after 8.30pm BST; and the points race, at 9.05pm BST.

Follow Trott's bid for gold, plus Jason Kenny in the keirin and Becky James and Katy Marchant in the women's sprint, with our live blog from 2pm BST.
