Peter 'Snakebite' Wright wins the Players Championship in Milton Keynes

Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright bounced back from his Premier League Darts final defeat by winning the Players Championship in Milton Keynes on Saturday.

Wright defeated Daryl Gurney 6-3 to claim the £10,000 prize along with his eighth ranking win of the year so far.

Wright was beaten 11-10 by Michael van Gerwen at The O2 last Thursday after missing six match darts in the conclusion to the Premier League season but was quickly back on the winning trail.

World No 3 Wright reiterated his desire to eventually overtake the world's highest ranked player Van Gerwen, saying: "Obviously it's going to take a little while, but yes I believe I can get to No 1 and that's my target.

"I want to be No 1 in the world and Michael's absolutely fantastic, but if you believe in yourself then you can do it.

"I said at the beginning of the year that it's up to the rest of us to take the titles off Michael, but if you let him run away with everything then he's going to."
