Buemi crash caused by malfunction

Toro Rosso have revealed that an upright failure caused Sebastien Buemi's spectacular accident during the first practice session for the Chinese Grand Prix on Friday. The Swiss driver crashed into barriers with 15 minutes left of the session after both front wheels came loose from his car under braking. Buemi, though, was able to walk away from the accident unharmed - although the 21-year-old was clearly shaken as he made a precautionary visit to the medical centre at the Shanghai International Circuit. And although Toro Rosso are still investigating what happened, they have confirmed that right front upright - which was being tested on the car for the first time - failed. Added to that, Toro Rosso have confirmed that the wheel tethers did not hold because they were attached to the broken parts. The team did not send his team-mate Jaime Alguersuari back out when the first practice session resumed as a precaution with Toro Rosso set to use uprights from their old design for the rest of the weekend.
