Pirelli and FIA to issue 'clearer procedure' on tyre restrictions

Instructions to be issue to prevent repeat of Monza post-race drama

Martin Brundle interviews Paul Hembery at Monza

Pirelli and the FIA will come up with 'a clearer procedure' regarding tyre restrictions in Singapore to avoid a repeat of the post-Italian GP drama.

Lewis Hamilton's victory at Monza was in doubt for nearly three hours after the chequered flag had fallen due to a tyre being under pressure during a spot check on the grid.

However, the stewards ruled that the tyres had been at the right pressure when Mercedes fitted them to the car, leading the FIA to state it will hold "further meetings" to provide clear guidance on measurement protocols.

Keen to avoid an embarrassing repeat of the events in Italy, Pirelli and the FIA will use the practice sessions to gather information before issuing further clarification to the teams.

"During these days, we will be defining, together with the FIA, a clearer procedure enabling the teams to more easily follow the rules regarding tyre usage," said Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery.

"This is important to avoid any misunderstandings, by giving the teams more precise indications to comply with, thus avoiding what happened to Mercedes in Monza."
