Tiger Woods suffers early exit at Genesis Open

Tiger Woods struggled in all areas as he failed to make the halfway cut after a second-round 76 at the Genesis Open.

Returning to the Riviera Country Club for the first time since 2006, Woods hit only four of 14 fairways on day two and three-putted three times for bogey on the back nine as he slumped to six over par - four shots too many to play the weekend.

After "grinding" hard to post an opening 72 on Thursday, Woods made an encouraging start to his second round as he holed 20-foot putts for birdies at the third and fifth holes either side of a dropped shot at the fourth.

His round began to unravel as he bogeyed three of the next four to turn in 37, although he did claw one back with a solid three-wood to the fringe at the driveable par-four 10th followed by a neat pitch to two feet.

But he missed further fairways at the next two holes and compounded the errors by three-putting on each green, and a wayward second from the short grass at the 13th cost him another shot.

Woods did well to scramble pars at 14 and 15, but he made his eighth bogey of the day at the next after another three-putt which left him with no chance to extend his tournament.

The 42-year-old did manage to close with two pars, but he will now have two unscheduled extra days to practice before he heads to Florida having confirmed he will play in next week's Honda Classic at PGA National.
