Two-time major champion Mark O'Meara is relishing the opportunity of hitting the opening tee shot at The 146th Open at Royal Birkdale on Thursday.

The 60-year-old, who won his second major title when the Open was staged at Birkdale in 1998, has been given a 6.35am start time alongside Chris Wood and Ryan Moore.

O'Meara has confirmed that this year's appearance will be his last at The Open and the American is delighted to be given the chance to get the contest underway.

"It's a tremendous honour," O'Meara told Sky Sports. "I have the upmost respect for the Open Championship and the R&A.

"19 years ago when I was here I was able to go on and win in a play-off over Brian Watts, which was a dream come true to hoist that Claret Jug."

Ahead of his landmark tee shot, O'Meara went through a trial run on Monday and had a practice attempt in front of large crowds at the par-four first.
