The Course

Routenburn Golf Club is famous as the home club to the Torrance family; where European Tour and Ryder Cup legend, Sam Torrance learned to play the game under the tuition of his father and golf teaching guru, Bob Torrance.

Located in Largs, Ayrshire’s popular seaside town, the James Braid designed 18-hole course, measures 5,650 yards and can be enjoyed by golfers of all abilities.

Unquestionably the highlight of this hilly parkland course is the spectacular unparalleled panoramic views over the Firth of Clyde, Arran and The Cumbraes, which unfold before you as you approach each hole.

The 16th at Routenburn. You can’t beat the magnificent view from the tee, with views across Arran, Millport and the Ailsa Craig. That’s just about as good as it gets from my point of view.

The Hole

At 336 yards, the 16th at Routenburn is an elevated tee overlooking the Firth of Clyde and beyond to Milport and Ailsa Craig.  The spectacular view from the tee is a highlight of this downhill par 4.

Golf in Ayrshire & Arran

Ayrshire is home to the prestigious Open Championship, which was held for the first time in Prestwick Golf Club in 1860.   Although it has been held in various locations over the years, Ayrshire & Arran remains an important region in golfing heritage.  This is notable through The Open being hosted at Turnberry in 2009 and the plans for its return in 2016 to Royal Troon.

As well as the aforementioned Championship courses on offer, Ayrshire & Arran boasts close to 50 golf courses, offering golfers of all levels everything from classic links to majestic inland layouts.

On the Isle of Arran, less than an hour’s ferry from Ardrossan, there are seven courses to be enjoyed.  From Shiskine, a unique 12-hole course that offers some brilliant par 3’s, to Brodick, which boasts spectacular views of Arran’s iconic mountain, Goatfell.  Why not tick them all off with the Arran golf pass which lets you play all seven while making great savings.

The 19th Hole and Beyond

Golf is far from the only activity on offer in the beautiful region of Ayrshire and Arran.  Situated on the west coast of Scotland, Ayrshire & Arran boasts an amazing natural larder which combines miles of stunning coastline, beaches and rolling green hills.  It’s the ideal location to explore the outdoors, from sailing or mountain biking to discovering wildlife in the magnificent woodlands.  Not to mention, you'll be spoilt for choice with the array of eateries serving tasty dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients.

Worldwide, Ayrshire is recognised as the birthplace of Scotland’s National Bard, Robert Burns and the inspiration for his timeless poetry.  Today you can immerse yourself into this fascinating history and culture at The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum.  Ayrshire & Arran is home to other historic landmarks including ancient standing stones, and medieval castles, from the stunning Culzean Castle to Brodick Castle and Country Park.
