The Course

The Blairgowrie Golf Club is situated in Perthshire’s beautiful countryside and of course this year host venue for The 2014 Junior Ryder Cup.  Established in 1889 as a private members club in 1889, Blairgowrie is today home to 3 courses;  Lansdowne and Rosemount 2 of Scotland’s renowned championship courses, as well as The Wee Course,  a 9-hole course set amongst the heathland that is perfect for a practice round.

I first played Blairgowrie about ten years ago and enjoyed it so much. I loved the tree lined holes and it was just the ultimate Scottish course. My favourite hole is the par 3 17th hole, when you stand on the tee and see the elevated green in front of you it just makes you want to hit your best shot.

There is peacefulness to the courses, mainly due to their heathland and woodland surroundings and the pine, silver birch and heather lined fairways provide a natural habitat for some of Scotland’s beautiful wildlife; including deer, red squirrels and woodpeckers.

The Hole

Named ‘Plateau’, the 17th hole at Blairgowrie’s Rosemount Course is one of Scotland’s top rated par 3’s.  The severely tiered green stretching 165 yards is definitely the most challenging hole on this course.

Situated in the heart of Scotland, Perthshire is one of Scotland’s great golfing regions.  It is home to the prestigious Gleneagles which this September will host The 2014 Ryder Cup for the first time in Scotland in over 40 years.  However Perthshire in fact boasts close to 40 varied courses.

From the challenging; Lynedoch Golf Course, which features numerous water hazards, bunkers and bracken-filled gullies, to brilliant inland courses like Ferntower in Crieff, Alyth, and Pitlochry Golf Course.

Perthshire’s not just about 18-hole courses; the region also boasts some brilliant 9-hole courses that are perfect for families or those short of time.

From Killin Golf Course which features one of the most scenic finishing holes in the country, to St Fillans on Loch Earn which Sandy Lyle considers his favourite inland course, and Dalmunzie, in the north of Perthshire which is one of Britain’s highest courses with beautiful views of Dalmunzie castle.

The 19th Hole and Beyond

Off the course, Perthshire offers many things to see and do, that are on par with its impressive collection of golf courses.  Considered to be one of Scotland’s great whisky producing regions, Perthshire is home to the country’s oldest distillery; Glenturret in Crieff where you can enjoy The Famous Grouse Experience.  Eradour, Scotland’s smallest distillery is also based in Perthshire in the picturesque highland town of Pitlochry where you can experience whisky being produced using traditional methods.
