David Wachman will seek better ground for Fire Lily next time out after she failed to fire in testing conditions at Newmarket.
The three-year-old finished seventh of 12 runners in the July Cup last weekend, trailing home over 12 lengths behind impressive winner Mayson.
Previously a winner at Group Three level and among the top rank as a juvenile, Wachman believes the heavy going was to blame for her lacklustre show.
"She's come out of the race well, she just couldn't pick up on that ground," he said.
"She's absolutely fine though, not a bother on her.
"She's in all the big six and seven-furlong races for the rest of the year but we really wouldn't want to run on that kind of ground again, so her plans will depend a bit on the weather."
Duntle
Wachman is also waiting for better ground before making plans for Royal Ascot winner Duntle.
The three-year-old won the Listed Sandringham Handicap last month and has entries in both next month's Desmond Stakes and the Coolmore Fusaichi Pegasus Matron Stakes at Leopardstown in September.
However, Wachman has yet to map out a definite campaign for the daughter of Danehill Dancer.
"She's in good form and came back from Ascot well. She's got a few options, there's some Group races in Ireland that we could look at for her," he said.
"She's another that would like better ground though, so it will depend on that."
