Ellie Downie is inspiring British gymnastic's next generation - but who is her icon?
Sky Sports' groundbreaking My Icon series coincides with Black History Month and has been showcasing talented Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic sportsmen and women on Sky Sports Mix and online every day in October.
Elite level BAME athletes past and present have shared their journeys with us. They have explained who their early mentors and inspirations were, discussed the barriers they have overcome and given their take on diversity and inclusivity within their respective sports.
Downie made history at the European Gymnastics Championships in Romania earlier this year, becoming the first British gymnast to win an all-around title at a major international championships. She also became the first British gymnast to qualify for all five individual finals at the Europeans.
The trailblazing Nottingham teenager has been shortlisted for the Sunday Times Young Sportswoman of the Year award, broadcast live on Sky Sports Mix, Sky Sports Arena and Sky Sports Main Event on Thursday from 8pm.
