Philadelphia police have released surveillance footage after Super Bowl celebrations turn into looting and vandalism

Philadelphia Eagles secured a historic maiden Super Bowl title on Sunday but celebrations in the city saw disturbing scenes of chaos with fans looting and vandalising.

The Eagles stunned favourites New England Patriots 41-33 in a high-scoring thriller at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, but the party mood in the city turned sour in the immediate aftermath.

In the early hours of Monday morning in Philadelphia, people could be seen throwing food, knocking over counters and taking items without paying in a convenience store.

The Philadelphia Police Department released the CCTV footage and officials have said the large numbers of people made a hole in a wall in the back of the shop.

The police are appealing to members of the public for help in identifying the suspects.
