Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy could miss the majority of the season as a result of the ankle injury suffered against the Giants back in Week 5.
Lacy sat out practice last week and was forced to miss the 30-16 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday.
The 26-year-old, who was selected by the Packers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, failed to recover in time for Green Bay's 26-10 win over the Chicago Bears on Friday.
He was officially been placed on injured reserve before the game, with Don Jackson called up to the active roster from the practice squad as a replacement.
Lacy is now expected to undergo surgery on his injured ankle and could miss the remainder of the season.
Jackson is an undrafted rookie who ran for 1,079 yards at the University of Nevada last season, before signing for the Packers on May 6.
Green Bay shrugged off Lacy's absence on Friday to condemn Chicago to a sixth defeat of the season at Lambeau Field.
After a close first half, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers began to impress as Chicago and third-string quarterback Matt Barkley wilted under the pressure.
Rodgers threw for more than 300 yards for the first time this season to hand Green Bay their fourth victory of the campaign.
