Quarterback Jay Cutler is set to return to the Chicago Bears line-up next Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings.

Cutler has missed the Bears' last five games with a thumb injury and his replacement Brian Hoyer suffered a broken arm in their week seven defeat against the Green Bay Packers.

Hoyer has already undergone surgery and is set to miss the rest of the season, making Cutler's return a timely one.

Cutler has been given medical clearance to practice and play and is expected to start against one of the NFL's best defences should he come through the week safely.

He will be counted on to improve the team's fortunes as they have only won one of their seven games so far despite some decent play from Hoyer.

Bears coach John Fox said there was a chance the franchise would look to sign another quarterback to back-up Cutler and Matt Barkley, who struggled badly in relief against Green Bay last week.
