Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott has recalled Tyrod Taylor at quarterback against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, a week after replacing him with rookie Nathan Peterman.
McDermott's decision to start Peterman badly backfired as the fifth-round draft pick threw five interceptions in a 54-24 thrashing by the Los Angeles Chargers last week.
McDermott, on Wednesday, called his decision to return to Taylor as starter "the right thing for our team."
Taylor, who is 20-18 in two seasons in Buffalo, was benched after going 9 of 18 for 56 yards through 55 minutes of a 47-10 loss to the New Orleans Saints two weeks ago.
The Bills (5-5) have lost three straight games after a strong start to the season. The team are in the midst of a 17-season playoff drought, the longest active streak in North America's four major professional sports.
McDermott said he had no regrets about his original decision to replace Taylor with Peterman.
"I felt like it was the right decision at the time, and right now the best decision for us is to focus on Kansas City Chiefs," he said. "I don't believe in making irrational snap decisions. I don't think that's right.
"But you make decisions and you go with it. And sometimes you learn."
Taylor, meanwhile, referred to the past week as being "an interesting set of days". And when asked about the status of his relationship with McDermott, he added: "The relationship is still there. Ultimately, we're here to win games.
"That's really what cures a lot of things. We're both working hard to do whatever it takes to find a win."
Taylor has gone 178 for 279 for 1,842 yards passing with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions during the 2017 season.
