History was made in the NFL last night. But the man at the centre of it all was taken by a 25-year-old from Shepherd’s Bush

History was made in the NFL on Saturday night – by a 25-year old trainee lawyer from Shepherd’s Bush.

No NFL franchise had ever announced a draft pick outside of the United States, but George Bedford did just that for the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

In the sixth round of the draft, George was given the honour of announcing the 180th pick, Michael Bennett of Ohio State, on behalf of the Jaguars.

Broadcasting live on the NFL network, he said: “With the fourth pick of the sixth round, number 180 overall, Jacksonville Jaguars select Michael Bennett, defensive tackle, from Ohio State.”

After performing his duties, he told Sky Sports News HQ: "I’m speechless. It was so nerve-wracking. But obviously it’s really exciting still. I’m buzzing a bit – my heart is absolutely pounding."

He was at least given an easy name to read out.

"I was so relieved with that – getting the numbers right was the main issue after that. It’s such an historic event, such an honour to go down in history as the first person outside the US to announce a draft pick. It’s a bit overwhelming I must say."
