Ed Dunlop still to decide whether Red Verdon runs again in 2016

Whether Red Verdon returns to the track this season has still to be decided.

Trainer Ed Dunlop was forced to pull stumps on plans to run the colt in the Ladbrokes St Leger as he found it coming too soon after a break, with his trainer warning earlier in the week he had not had a straightforward preparation.

He has run with great credit this season in the Investec Derby at Epsom, as well as the Irish equivalent at the Curragh and the Grand Prix de Paris.

"There's not a great deal left for him to be honest," said Dunlop.

"He deserved his break after he ran in France as he'd been very busy and then aim was to target the St Leger.

"Unfortunately, as everyone knows, we had a few health issues with him and it was a bit of a rush.

"In the end I decided it was going to be too much of a rush and he wouldn't have done himself justice if he'd run in the Leger.
