Blue Point looks set to go off a short-price favourite for the Group One Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes with Caravaggio absent at the five-day stage.

Aidan O'Brien reported a setback for Caravaggio earlier in the month and he has evidently failed to recover in time to take his chance at Newmarket on Saturday.

Blue Point does look set to go for top-level glory, however, following his impressive success in the Group Two Gimcrack Stakes at York's Ebor meeting.

Trainer Charlie Appleby said: "Everything has gone well to date and we are on target for the Middle Park. He is fit and well and is a very exciting horse.

"I'm sure Aidan will bring something over that is progressive, but he has already beaten half the field and if he turns up in the same condition as he did at York, he is the horse they have got to beat."

O'Brien now has five possibles left in the race; Courage Under Fire, Intelligence Cross, Leo Minor, Peace Envoy and Sportsmanship.

Godolphin not only have Appleby's Blue Point in the running, but also the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Silver Line as another possible.
