Jockey Andrew Thornton faces three weeks on the sidelines after breaking his collarbone in a fall at Towcester on Wednesday.
Thornton was riding Utmost Zeal in the Haygain Hay Steamers Clean Healthy Forage Novices' Chase for Lawney Hill when his mount veered right, leaving him no chance of staying in the saddle.
It was a heavy fall and to compound matters he was trodden on by a following horse.
Thornton remains stranded on 996 winners in his pursuit of a landmark 1,000th career success.
"It certainly didn't help being trodden on, I'm not sure if it happened then or just when I hit the ground," said Thornton.
"You always say three weeks these days for a collarbone so that's what I'm working off. I'm going to see Dr Foy later, so I'll know more then.
"There was a time with a collarbone they used to say if you can take the pain you can ride but a lot has changed in 20 years. Thankfully times have changed.
"I'm still on 996, you never take anything for granted in this game, hopefully this is just a blip."
