Nottingham to stage O'Sullevan race

The Sir Peter O’Sullevan Voice of Racing EBF Maiden Stakes is to be run at Nottingham Racecourse this autumn.
The corresponding race was won last year by 2015 Investec Derby-winner, Golden Horn.
The race on Wednesday October 28 will honour the late broadcaster, journalist, racehorse owner and charity fundraiser, but it is not a memorial race. It was agreed between Sir Peter, before he sadly passed away, and Nottingham Racecourse Chairman, Peter Jensen, and recently published in the racing calendar.
Nigel Payne, Trustee and Administrator of the Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust, who will be at the racecourse in October, said:
“Peter Jensen has always been one of the greatest supporters of the Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust. He was a good friend of Sir Peter and attends the awards lunch in November each year.
“As Chairman of The Jockey Club’s Nottingham Racecourse, he asked if they could name a race in Sir Peter’s honour more than two months ago. Sir Peter was delighted to agree to it.”
The Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust, set up by Sir Peter after he retired as BBC TV’s racing commentator in 1997, has raised more than £4 million for equine welfare good causes.
