    Summary

Four and five year olds had dominated this race until Evens And Odds victory last year to provide David Nicholls with his second success in the race in six seasons and it's best to concentrate on that age group again. Mac's Power, Kanaf and Nasri (who ran in the Bunbury Cup) all qualify on a number of the trends but the two that make most appeal are Colonel Mak and VICTOIRE DE LYPHAR. Colonel Mak - who is one from one for Jamie Spencer - is just 1lb higher than when winning the Ayr Silver Cup last season and only 1lb outside the ratings band that has provided the majority of recent winners. However, David Nicholls' record in the race swings the vote the way of the latter who has had fewer runs this season than any recent winner but finished second in the consolation race last year. Whilst the majority of recent winners have won during the current season, neither of the last two have and the form of his reappearance has worked out well while his latest run can be ignored due to his failure to handle soft ground.
