Widnes have signed Papua New Guinea international prop forward Wellington Albert.

The 23-year-old joins the Vikings from Queensland Cup champions PNG Hunters after impressing with some powerful performances in his country's run to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Widnes head coach Denis Betts has already brought in Albert's compatriot Kato Ottio from Canberra Raiders ahead of the new season and is looking forward to having the duo at his disposal.

Betts said: "Through seeing him first hand at the Rugby League World Cup and having the opportunity to speak to people I respect who have coached and played alongside him, I identified that Wellington would have the right qualities to enhance our team.

"I am delighted that we have been able to secure his move.

"Wellington is big, dynamic and carries the ball well. It is exciting to introduce a forward to our squad who has shown he is physically able to also play on the wing.

"With his size and determination, he will be a strong addition to the Vikings.
