Greg Minikin's shoulder injury is not as serious as first feared and he may return for Castleford's clash against Huddersfield on March 31.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a superb start to the new Betfred Super League season, but damaged his shoulder in the act of scoring his ninth try of the campaign in the 13-12 defeat at Salford.

Minikin will miss Sunday's home match against Catalans as a result of the injury, but coach Daryl Powell is hoping to have the Super League's top try scorer back at his disposal for the visit of Rick Stone's side.

"We don't think it's too bad," Powell said. "He looked like he'd dislocated his shoulder but he's had a scan and seen a specialist and things aren't too bad.

"He's got a bit of a problem with his ligament but shouldn't be too long. We're really pleased it's not too serious. He's a high quality player who is going to be an outstanding player of the future."

Australian winger Joel Monaghan has been restricted to just one appearance this season due to Minikin's good form, but is likely to take his place in the starting line-up against Catalans.

"He's been waiting in the wings and now he'll get a chance," Powell said.

Minikin produced a great finish to score his ninth try of the season against Salford

"He's a proven tryscorer. He didn't quite get going last season and then had a shoulder injury himself so this is a really good opportunity for him to get in the side and show what he's about."

Powell also confirmed that stand-off Rangi Chase could be available for selection after sitting out the last two matches following an internal investigation into an off-field incident.
