English referee Phil Bentham will officiate Saturday's 2014 Four Nations Series final in Wellington.

The 43-year-old was chosen by a three-man selection panel to take control of the decider at the Westpac Stadium between New Zealand and Australia.

Organisers appeared to abandon the idea of neutral referees earlier in the tournament but Bentham was chosen ahead of Australian Gerard Sutton and New Zealander Henry Perenara for the deciding contest.

Bentham, who took charge of this season’s Super League Grand Final against St Helens and dismissed Wigan forward Ben Flower after just two minutes of the Old Trafford contest, was in charge of the opening game between the Kangaroos and the Kiwis.

Perenara and Bernard Sutton have been appointed as video referees, while England's Robert Hicks will be one of the touch-judges.
