Britain’s Kyle Edmund claimed the biggest win of his career so far by dumping Richard Gasquet out of the US Open.

The British No 3 reached the second-round of a Grand Slam for just the third time after a brilliant 6-2 6-2 6-3 win over 13th seed Gasquet.

Currently ranked at No 84 in the world, Edmund's best Grand Slam performances were previously a pair of second-round eliminations at the French Open but he now has a chance to improve that record at Flushing Meadows.

From the earliest exchanges Edmund was striking the ball more cleanly than his more experienced opponent - Gasquet's trademark backhand was conspicuous by its absence for the majority of the first-round tie.

Edmund needed just 28 minutes to go a set ahead and, before Gasquet could muster a response, the Brit was two up for the concession of just four combined games.
