Tottenham are in talks with Lyon to sign their young striker Clinton N'Jie, according to a source within the French club.

The 21-year-old Cameroon international scored seven goals in 30 appearances for Lyon last season but he did not appear in his side's opening day squad to face FC Lorient on Sunday.

Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino suggested over the weekend that the club were in discussions over their latest target and that he was hopeful a deal would be struck in the coming days.

Pochettino said: "I never speak about rumours. If you check in the last few weeks, a lot of names are linked with us.

"But this is private, our target, and I hope it can happen quick. It is very clear that we need to add more players."

Spurs have been determined to add at least one new forward this summer and have set their sights on N'Jie after missing out on targets elsewhere.

They began their transfer business with a considerable push to sign Burnley's Danny Ings but the England forward chose to join Liverpool.

Spurs then moved for Monaco's Anthony Martial but were unable to persuade his current club into a sale and he subsequently extended his contract.

Tottenham have also been interested in Stuttgart's young Germany Under-20 international Timo Werner but the Bundesliga club are reluctant to sell one of their brightest prospects.

N'Jie has been on Spurs list since the start and they now believe the pacy attacker, who can play as a centre-forward or from either the left or right wings, can bring in some dynamism up-front.

Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season, despite arguably being the better of the two sides.
