Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala has signed a new four-year contract.

The Spaniard has been with Boro since January 2014 when he signed a permanent deal after a successful spell on loan from Norwich City.

Ayala was one of the club's most impressive performers last season as they secured promotion back to the Premier League, being named PFA Championship Fans' Player of the Year.

Ayala said: "I didn't think about anything else. I only had one decision in my mind and that was to sign with Middlesbrough.

"When I wasn't at my best Boro gave me the chance, and I've improved myself under Aitor Karanka. All of the fans really like me and I am really settled here.

"My family are really happy here, my son was born here and hopefully my second will be born here too!
