Hearts have signed free agent Danny Swanson on a deal until the end of the season.

The midfielder was given a trial at Riccarton after leaving Coventry at the start of the month and returns to Scottish football permanently three years after leaving Dundee United.

"I'm very delighted to be here," Swanson told the Hearts website. "It's been a hard few days at training but all worthwhile.

"I don't think I've been this happy since I signed for Dundee United, this is how excited I am to be here. I'm looking forward to it.

"I hope to win myself a longer deal. This is kind of a trial thing for me. The manager's been honest enough and said that he'd take me to the end of the season and see what happens.

"I've just got to make things happen. I've never been more determined to make something happen in my whole career. I'm 28 now, I've got a family and it's all for them. I'm driven to be a success here."
