Scunthorpe have signed Coventry midfielder Jim O'Brien on loan while defender Niall Canavan has completed a temporary move to Rochdale.
O'Brien, 29, who had made 29 appearances for the Sky Blues this season, has arrived on an emergency loan deal, the Iron confirmed on their website.
The former Celtic and Motherwell winger spent four seasons at Barnsley after signing in the summer of 2010, making 133 appearances, before joining Coventry in July 2014.
Centre-half Canavan, 24, has also joined Rochdale on an emergency loan deal and could go straight into their squad for Tuesday night's Sky Bet League One game at home to Crewe.
Canavan progressed through Scunthorpe's youth system and has made 173 first-team appearances in all competitions, scoring 15 goals.
