Newcastle United are looking into the possibility of signing Callum McManaman from West Brom, Sky sources understand.

The Magpies are close to securing Chelsea winger Christian Atsu on a season-long loan but are also considering another winger before Wednesday's transfer deadline.

McManaman, 25, has struggled to nail down a first-team place at the Baggies since a £4.75m move from Wigan in January 2015.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis confirmed on Sunday, following his side's goalless draw at home to Middlesbrough, that he expected McManaman to leave The Hawthorns before Wednesday's transfer deadline.

Pulis said: "The players we brought in, if they haven't settled, we'll get a return. I expect McManaman to leave - we'll get our money back on him.

"We've got our money back and made a profit on James Chester and Rickie Lambert is the same. We'll most probably make some money on Rickie, if we're going to sell him."

McManaman has made only seven Premier League starts in 20 months at the club, with 18 further appearances off the bench across all competitions.
