Bournemouth have seen their £10m bid for Brentford defender Chris Mepham rejected, according to Sky sources.
The Cherries returned with a fresh approach for the young centre-back after having a £5.5m bid rejected by Brentford during the January transfer window.
But that too has been turned down, with the improved offer still not understood to be close to the Bees' valuation of the player.
Mepham made 21 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship last season after signing a five-year contract with the club in September 2017.
The 20-year-old made his international debut for Wales earlier this year, coming on as a substitute in the 6-0 win over China in the 2018 China Cup.
Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is keen to bolster his squad ahead of the new season, as he prepares the Cherries for their fourth consecutive season in the Premier League.
Howe allowed striker Benik Afobe to leave the club for £12.5m in July and is yet to make a major signing this summer.
