Jean-Michael Seri's agent is expected to fly to Italy in the next week to continue talks with Napoli, according to Sky sources.
The Nice and Ivory Coast midfielder has one year remaining on his current contract which includes a £35m release clause.
Sky sources understand Seri's preference is to move to a Premier League club despite the interest from Napoli.
Chelsea are interested in the 26-year-old, but it is understood nothing is likely to happen until the managerial situation at Stamford Bridge is sorted.
Arsenal and Manchester City are also understood to have registered an interest in Seri.
Seri, who has previously spent time at ASEC Mimosas and Pacos de Ferreira, has featured over 120 times for Nice, scoring 11 goals.
