Mason Greenwood has signed a new contract with Manchester United which will keep him at the club until June 2025, with the option to extend for a further year.

The 19-year-old academy graduate has been with the club since the age of seven and has gone on to make 82 first-team appearances.

No teenager has also scored more goals for United in a single campaign than Greenwood's 17 last season - a tally level with Manchester United legends Brian Kidd, George Best and Wayne Rooney.

On the new deal, Greenwood, who is also United's youngest-ever European goalscorer, said: "When you join the club at seven years old you just dream of playing for the first-team one day."

"I've worked so hard to reach this level and the last two years have been amazing. I want to thank the academy for everything they have done for me and for their continued support to this day.

"There is so much that I want to achieve in the game and I know that this is the perfect environment to play my football.

"With the support from the manager, Kieran (McKenna) and the rest of the coaching staff and so many great players to learn from; I know that I am developing every single day.

"There is a lot more to come from myself and this team and I am so committed to working week in, week out to help the group achieve success. I want to repay the club for the support that everyone has given me over the years and show everyone just what I am capable of."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed Greenwood his debut at Paris St Germain in the Champions League in March 2019 and has been delighted with the England international's progress.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood is 'over his blip' and has 'matured immensely' in recent weeks.

"Mason is a fantastic talent and yet another fine example of the type of player that our academy produces," the United boss said.

"He has made great progress this season, showing real maturity and adaptability to his game which has seen him develop into one of the best young players in the country.

"Whilst it is easy for people outside of the club to forget that Mason is just 19, it is our job as coaches to ensure he reaches his phenomenal potential and every step we take is to help him along that path.

"Mason is naturally gifted and has a brilliant attitude; we know how important he is going to be for Manchester United over the coming seasons."

Ole: I'm following Haaland closely

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is following Erling Haaland's progress and believes the Borussia Dortmund striker will have a "fantastic" career.

Haaland has developed into one of the world's most prolific forwards having scored 39 goals in 41 appearances for Dortmund since joining from Red Bull Salzburg at the end of 2019.

Solskjaer, who coached Haaland during his time in charge of Norwegian club Molde, reportedly met with the 20-year-old before his move to Germany after United head scout Marcel Bout had watched him play against Liverpool in the Champions League last season.

Sky Sports News understood United had met Haaland's €20m release clause at the time but could not agree on the conditions for the transfer, with the stumbling block believed to be the value of the requested buy-out option if the Norway international moved to Old Trafford.

Asked if their previous relationship could help United compete for his signature, Solskjaer told Norwegian newspaper VG: "It's quite certain Erling will have a fantastic career and I have always said that. I follow Erling closely. Was it 18 months we spent together or thereabouts? Almost two years maybe. It was a fantastic time."
