THE COURSES

All of the races take place on flat roads in and around Doha. Here are the courses for the elite men's and women's races...

Women's elite time trial - 28.9km

Defending champion: Linda Villumsen (New Zealand).

Men's elite time trial - 40km

Defending champion: Vasil Kiryienka (Belarus).

Women's elite road race - 134.5km

Defending champion: Lizzie Deignan (Great Britain).

Men's elite road race - 257.5km

Defending champion: Peter Sagan (Slovakia).

THE CONTENDERS

Because the road races all take place on mostly flat roads, sprinters such as Mark Cavendish, Marcel Kittel, Kirsten Wild and Marianne Vos are favourites for victory. However, Qatar is regularly buffeted by strong winds and there is a chance the peloton could be broken up.

In the time trials, the flat courses will favour pure time-triallists such as Tony Martin, Tom Dumoulin, Ellen van Dijk and Kristin Armstrong.

GREAT BRITAIN'S TEAM

Men: Adam Blythe, Mark Cavendish, Steve Cummings, Alex Dowsett, Dan McLay, Luke Rowe, Ian Stannard, Ben Swift, Geraint Thomas, Scott Thwaites.

Women: Alice Barnes, Hannah Barnes, Lizzie Deignan, Dani King, Laura Massey, Annasley Park, Abby-Mae Parkinson, Eileen Roe, Hayley Simmonds.

Under-23 men: Gabriel Cullaigh, Scott Davies, Jon Dibben, Chris Latham, Tao Geoghegan Hart, James Shaw.
