Adrian Lewis beat Phil Taylor to claim the first UK Open qualifier

Adrian Lewis continued where he left off in the Premier League on Thursday to beat Phil Taylor in Friday's UK Open Qualifier One.

Jackpot has looked back to his best since a fabulous run to the World Championship final at Alexandra Palace and he was again impressive in Wigan to come through a long day and claim his first ranking title for almost a year.

Less than 24 hours after beating Michael Smith in his Premier League opener in Leeds on Thursday, Lewis was back on the oche with more than 100 players battling it out for the £10,000 winner's cheque in the first of three UK Open qualifying events to be played this weekend ahead of the event in March.

Lewis did things the hard way, beating Taylor 6-2 in the final with an average in excess of 110 and having seen off Peter Wright in the semi-final, Rowby-John Rodriguez in the quarter-final, World Championship semi-finalist Alan Norris in the last 16 and a whitewash of Mervyn King in the last 32.

Other notable events from festivities in Wigan saw 2005 World Championship finalist Mark Dudbridge hit a nine-dart finish to beat Terry Jenkins having already seen off James Wade.

Michael van Gerwen saw his hopes ended with a last 32 defeat to the in-form Dave Chisnall, while Raymond van Barneveld, fresh from Premier League victory over Taylor, reached the quarter-final where he was beaten by Snakebite Wright.
