Dutchman's run came to an end with defeat against Raymond van Barneveld

After Michael van Gerwen recorded the longest unbeaten run in televised history, Wayne Mardle said "in today's climate, it is absolutely ridiculous".
Van Gerwen beat James Wade in the opening clash of last Thursday's Premier League night in Manchester to set the new record, lasting 44 matches and 179 days in total.
And despite his remarkable run coming to an end against fellow Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld in the last match of the night, Mardle feels he is still better than anyone else.
"Phil Taylor set the standard and I'm not putting anyone down by saying that he's only beaten the likes of me and a few others, but Michael van Gerwen is beating Gary Anderson, he's beating Phil Taylor, he's beating Peter Wright," he said.
"There are so many great players about now and Michael van Gerwen has got their number - he really does.
"He has become a win machine and what he also does really well is when things are not going his way 100 per cent, like Phil Taylor back in the day, he finds a way to win. It's an art, a skill."
