Michael van Gerwen struck the first nine-darter on the European Tour for five years.
Van Gerwen hit the perfect leg against Ryan Joyce in Hamburg on Saturday, before beating William O'Connor 8-2 in the final on Sunday.
The last nine-darter on the European Tour had been achieved five years and a day earlier by Ross Smith in the Gibraltar Darts Trophy.
Van Gerwen won last month's Gibraltar Darts Trophy and added another title in Hamburg, along with the £25,000 prize.
O'Connor shocked world champion Rob Cross 7-4 earlier in the tournament.
The World Matchplay is live on Sky Sports from July 21.
