Ajax returned to the top of the Eredivisie with a 2-0 victory over Excelsior on Sunday.

Winger Anwar El Ghazi scored his seventh goal of the season to put the visitors ahead and Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik grabbed the second just before the break as Ajax regained the lead in the title race from Heracles.

AZ Alkmaar's stuttering start to the season continued when they went down 2-0 at FC Groningen.

Bryan Linssen opened the scoring in the 31st minute and Mimoun Mahi wrapped it up for the hosts in stoppage time.

Feyenoord earned a point on the road at Roda to stay in fourth place in the table. They had taken the lead through Michiel Kramer in the 20th minute but Hicham Faik pulled the hosts level seven minutes later and the score remained 1-1.

De Graafschap's problems intensified after going down 3-0 at Vitesse Arnhem - the visitors have yet to get a single point this season.

Guram Kashia, Valeri Kazaishvili and Milot Rashica got the goals for Vitesse, who are now in seventh spot in the table.
