Marco Botti bides his time with Fanciful Angel

Marco Botti will be looking for more races over a mile for Fanciful Angel after the colt's fine effort to finish second in the German 2000 Guineas on Monday.

The Newmarket trainer was delighted with his the performance of his raider that saw him beaten only by Karpino, who was an impressive winner and has big-race ambitions.

However, he is no rush to run him quickly and it is unlikely Fanciful Angel will go to Royal Ascot.

"The favourite was impressive, but we were pleased to be second," said Botti.

"Going into the race, he had only won a Listed race at Lingfield and he was rated lower than the winner. We have to pleased with a place.

"He's consistent, he tries all the time and a mile is his best trip.

"I don't think he will go to Ascot, because the St James's Palace will be very competitive.

"We don't want to drop him back to seven for something like the Jersey Stakes and he's probably too high in the handicap for the Britannia.

"We'll let him come home and see how he has taken this race and we will regroup in the next few days. We are not in a rush to make any plans.

"He doesn't mind a bit of cut in the ground, so if we wait a bit longer it won't be a problem."
