Testing conditions did for Pepper

Pepper Lane's disappointing performance in the Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday has been attributed to the going by trainer David O'Meara. The filly was a leading fancy for the prestigious six-furlong handicap after completing a hat-trick in the Great St Wilfrid. However, she failed to reproduce that kind of form and only beat four rivals home as Our Jonathan took the honours. "Pepper Lane is fine. Maybe ground conditions up there was a bit too testing for her. It's a possibility," said the North Yorkshire handler. "She might have one more run before the end of the season. "There's a fillies' Listed race (EBF Bahamian Bounty' Boadicea Fillies' Stakes) at Newmarket in a couple of weeks' time. "She might go there."
