Useful recruit lined up for hurdling debut

Surprise Cheltenham entry Tiger Reigns could start his hurdling career at Doncaster on Thursday. Highly progressive on the Flat for Michael Dods during 2010 and rated as high as 102, the six-year-old failed to reach such lofty heights last season and his County Durham-based trainer has decided to try something different. Dods, who has saddled the occasional jumps winner in his time, has entered Tiger Reigns in the William Hill Supreme Novices' Hurdle as well as the 32RedPoker.com Novices' Hurdle on Town Moor. "He's entered at Doncaster and will hopefully run," Dods said. "I gave him a break as I think going to Dubai early in the year took a lot out of him and he wasn't quite the same. "Barry Keniry has been schooling him and it has all been going well. We'll see how he gets on and then we can think about some other races." Dods still has Sweet Lightning, who has not raced since winning last year's Lincoln, over in Dubai for valuable prizes. "He picked up a small injury but is out there and hopefully we'll be able to run him in a few of the races," he said.
