Curragh contest could be next option for Penitent

David O'Meara will be hoping for soft ground for Penitent's next possible outing in the Kare Race Day Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh on July 21. The North Yorkshire handler could target the six-year-old at the seven-furlong Group Three event, should conditions be deemed suitable. "He has his ground at the minute but there isn't a race for him," said O'Meara. "There's a race in Ireland, a seven-furlong Group Three at the Curragh, and he might go there if the ground is OK." Penitent made a fine start for his new owners Middleham Park Racing when winning the Listed Doncaster Mile and the Group Two bet365 Mile at Sandown in the Spring. However, he was well-beaten on drier ground when upped to Group One level in the Prix d'Ispahan at Longchamp on his latest start a month ago.
